ܒܫܢܬ ܬܡܢܥܣܪܐ ܠܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܕܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܩܡ ܒܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܐܒܝܐ ܥܠ ܫܒܛܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܝܗܘܕܐ

In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah.

ܘܬܠܬ ܫܢ̈ܝܢ ܐܡܠܟ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܫܡܐ ܕܐܡܗ ܡܥܟܐ ܒܪܬ ܐܘܪܝܠ ܡܢ ܪܡܬܐ

He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

ܘܐܣܪ ܐܒܝܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܥ̇ܒܕ̈ܝ ܩܪܒܐ ܐܪܒܥܡܐܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܥܠܝ̈ܡܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܩܒܠܘ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܕܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܘܢܥܒܕܘܢ ܩܪܒܐ ܥܡ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܘܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܟܢܫ ܠܗ ܚܝܠܐ ܘܐܬܐ ܕܢܥܒܕ ܩܪܒܐ ܒܬܡܢܡܐܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܥܠܝܡ̈ܐ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝ ܚܝܠܐ

Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.

ܘܩܡ ܐܒܝܐ ܥܠ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܨܡܪܝܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܬܚܘܡܐ ܕܛܘܪܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܥ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܘܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ

Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:

ܟܒܪ ܝܕ̇ܥܝܢ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܝܗܒ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܥܠܡ ܠܗ ܘܠܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܩܝܡܐ ܕܡܠܟܐ
dmlk' qym' wlbnwhy lh lelm 'ysryl el ldwyd mlkwth' yhb d'ysryl 'lh' dmry' hwythwn ydeyn kbr
Ought you not to know that Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

ܘܩܡ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܥܒ̣ܕܗ ܕܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܒܪܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܘܡܪܕ ܥܠ ܡܪܗ

Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

ܘܟܢܫ ܠܘܬܗ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܥܘ̣ܠܐ ܘܐܬܥܫܢ ܥܠ ܪܚܒܥܡ ܒܪܗ ܕܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܘܪܚܒܥܡ ܛܠܝܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܛܠܐ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܝ̇ܕܥ ܗܘܐ ܡܕܡ ܠܡܐܡܪ ܘܠܐ ܒܝܐܗ ܠܥܡܐ ܥܠ ܫܘܥܒܕܐ ܕܫܥܒܕ ܗܘܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܐܒܘܗܝ
'bwhy shlymwn 'nwn hw' dshebd shwebd' el lem' by'h wl' lm'mr mdm hw' yde wl' ywmyn wTl' hw' Tly' wrkhbem dshlymwn brh rkhbem el w'theshn ewl' bny rshye' gbr' lwthh wknsh
Worthless men were gathered to him, wicked fellows who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender hearted, and could not withstand them.

ܘܐܦ ܗܫܐ ܡܢܐ ܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܙܠܬܘܢ ܐܦܪܩܬܘܢ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܙܠܬܘܢ ܘܦܠܚܬܘܢ ܠܐܠܗ̈ܐ ܡܝ̈ܬܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܥܠ ܫܒܛܐ ܚܕ ܩܐ̇ܡ ܐܢܐ ܒܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܫܒ̈ܛܐ ܣ̈ܓܝܐܐ ܘܒܝܢܬܟܘܢ ܐܝܬ ܥܓ̈ܠܐ ܕܕܗܒܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܠܟܘܢ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ

“Now you intend to withstand the kingdom of Yahweh in the hand of the sons of David. You are a great multitude, and the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods are with you.

ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܦܪܩܬܘܢ ܠܟܗ̈ܢܐ ܒܢܘ̈ܗܝ ܕܐܗܪܘܢ ܘܠܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܘܥܒܕܬܘܢ ܠܟܘܢ ܟܘܡܪ̈ܐ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܟܠ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܥܐ̇ܠ ܠܡܩܪܒܘ ܩܘܪܒܢܐ ܫܩ̇ܠܝܢ ܗܘܝܬܘܢ ܡܢܗ ܬܘܪܐ ܒܪ ܒܩܪܐ ܘܕܟܪ̈ܐ ܫܒܥܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܗܘܐ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܠܕܠܐ ܐܠܗ̈ܝܢ

Haven’t you driven out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves according to the ways of the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of those who are no gods.

ܘܚܢܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܢ ܠܐ ܫܒܩܢ ܘܟܗ̈ܢܐ ܕܡܫܡܫܝܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܒܢܘ̈ܗܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܐܗܪܘܢ ܘܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܒܥܒܝܕ̈ܬܗܘܢ
bebydthhwn wlwy' d'hrwn 'nwn bnwhy lmry' dmshmshyn wkhn' shbqn l' 'lhn lmry' wkhnn
“But as for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests serving Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work.

ܘܡܣܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܕܒ̈ܚܐ ܒܟܠ ܨܦܪ ܘܨܦܪ ܘܒܟܠ ܪܡܫ ܘܪܡܫ ܘܩܛܪ̈ܘܩܐ ܕܒܣ̈ܡܐ ܘܣܕܪ̈ܐ ܕܠܚܡܐ ܥܠ ܦܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܕܟ̈ܝܐ ܘܡܢܪ̈ܬܐ ܕܕܗܒܐ ܘܫܪ̈ܓܝܗܝܢ ܘܛܠܝܐ ܫܪܓܬܢܐ ܡܢܗܪ ܠܗܝܢ ܒܟܠ ܪܡܫ ܘܪܡܫ ܘܚܢܢ ܢܛ̇ܪܝܢ ܢܛܘܪ̈ܬܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܢ ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܫܒܩܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܘܐܙܠܬܘܢ ܒܬܪ ܐܠܗ̈ܐ ܡܝ̈ܬܐ ܘܦܠܚܬܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܣܓܕܬܘܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܫܒܩܬܘܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ
lmry' wshbqthwn lhwn wsgdthwn 'nwn wplkhthwn myth' 'lh' bthr w'zlthwn shbqthwnyhy dyn w'nthwn 'lhn dmry' nTwrth' nTryn wkhnn wrmsh rmsh bkl lhyn mnhr shrgthn' wTly' wshrgyhyn ddhb' wmnrth' dky' pthwr' el dlkhm' wsdr' dbsm' wqTrwq' wrmsh rmsh wbkl wtspr tspr bkl dbkh' lmry' hww wmsqyn
They burn to Yahweh every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table, and care for the gold lamp stand with its lamps, to burn every evening; for we keep the instruction of Yahweh our God, but you have forsaken him.

ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒܗܝ̈ܟܘܢ ܘܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܬܟܫܪܘܢ ܒܥܠܡܐ
belm' thkshrwn l' 'nthwn w'p d'bhykwn 'lh'
Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers; for you will not prosper.”

ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܐܪܝܡܘ ܩܠܗܘܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܡܪܝܐ ܬܒܪ ܠܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܘܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܩܕܡ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܩܕܡ ܐܒܝܐ
'by' wqdm yhwd' qdm wl'ysryl nbT br lywrbem thbr wmry' yhwd' dbyth gbr' qlhwn 'rymw dkd whw'
Then the men of Judah gave a shout. As the men of Judah shouted, God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

ܘܥܪܩܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܝܗܘܕܐ
yhwd' bny qdm mn 'ysryl bny werqw
The children of Israel fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hand.

ܘܚܪܒ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܒܝܐ ܚܪܒܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܘܢܦܠܘ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܡܢ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܚܡܫܡܐܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܥܠܝ̈ܡܐ
elym' gbr' 'lpyn khmshm'' 'ysryl mn gbr' wnplw rbth' khrb' 'by' 'nwn wkhrb
Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter, so five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel fell down slain.

ܘܐܬܬܒܪܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܘܐܬܓܒܪܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܣܘܡܟܢܢ ܥܠ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܘ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒܗ̈ܬܢ
d'bhthn 'lh' hw mry' el swmknn d'mryn mTwl yhwd' bny w'thgbrw hw bzbn' 'ysryl bny w'ththbrw
Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

ܘܪܕܦ ܐܒܝܐ ܒܬܪ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܘܟܒܫ ܡܢܗ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܬܐ ܒܝܬ ܐܝܠ ܘܡܐܟ̈ܠܬܗ̇ ܫܠܐ ܘܡܐ̈ܟܠܬܗ̇ ܘܥܦܪܘܢ ܘܡܐ̈ܟܠܬܗ̇
wm'klthh weprwn wm'klthh shl' wm'klthh 'yl byth rwrbth' qwry' mnh wkbsh ywrbem bthr 'by' wrdp
Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its villages, Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephron with its villages.

ܘܙܥܪ ܠܗ ܚܝܠܐ ܠܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܬܘܒ ܒܝܘܡ̈ܬܗ ܕܐܒܝܐ ܘܡܚܝܗܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܘܡܝܬ
wmyth lywrbem mry' wmkhyhy d'by' bywmthh thwb lywrbem khyl' lh wzer
Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. Yahweh struck him, and he died.

ܘܐܬܓܒܪ ܐܒܝܐ ܘܢܣܒ ܠܗ ܢܫ̈ܐ ܐܪ̈ܒܥܣܪܐ ܘܐܬܝܠܕܘ ܠܗ ܒܢ̈ܝܐ ܕܟܪ̈ܐ ܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܫܬܐ ܘܒܢ̈ܬܐ ܢܩܒ̈ܬܐ ܫܬܬܥܣܪܐ

But Abijah grew mighty and took for himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

ܘܫܪܟܐ ܕܦܬܓ̈ܡܘܗܝ ܕܐܒܝܐ ܘܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܗ ܗܢܘܢ ܟܬܝܒܝܢ ܒܡܕܪ̈ܫܐ ܕܥܕܘ ܢܒܝܐ
