בשנת תמנסרי למלכא ירבעם ומלך אביה על בית יהודה:
yhwdh byth el abyh wmlk yrbem lmlka thmnsry bshnth
In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah.

תלת שנין מלך בירושלם ושום אמיה מיכיהו ברת אוריאל מן גבעתא היא הות מיכה ברת אבשלום ואמטול דהות אתתא כשרתא אתהפכא למתקרי מיכיהו שמא דמעלי ושום אבוהא אתהפך למתקרי אוריאל דמן גבעתא דלא למדכר שמיה דאבשלום וקרבא הות ביני אביה וביני ירבעם:
yrbem wbyny abyh byny hwth wqrba dabshlwm shmyh lmdkr dla gbetha dmn awryal lmthqry athhpk abwha wshwm dmely shma mykyhw lmthqry athhpka kshrtha aththa dhwth wamTwl abshlwm brth mykh hwth hya gbetha mn awryal brth mykyhw amyh wshwm byrwshlm mlk shnyn thlth
He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

וטקס אביה ארתכין וסדר קרבא בחיל גברי עבדי קרבא ארבע מאה אלפין גוברין עולימין וירבעם טקיס עמיה סדרי קרבא בתמני מאה אלפין גוברין גברי חילא:
khyla gbry gwbryn alpyn mah bthmny qrba sdry emyh Tqys wyrbem ewlymyn gwbryn alpyn mah arbe qrba ebdy gbry bkhyl qrba wsdr arthkyn abyh wTqs
Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.

וקם אביה מעלוי לטור צמרים די בטור שבטא דבית אפרים ואמר קבילו מני ירבעם וכלהון בית ישראל:
yshral byth wklhwn yrbem mny qbylw wamr aprym dbyth shbTa bTwr dy tsmrym lTwr melwy abyh wqm
Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:

הלא לכון מדע ארום יי אלהא דישראל יהב מלכותא לדוד ואשלטיה על ישראל לעלם ליה ולבנוי קים מלח היכמא דמוי דימא לית אפשר דמתמתקן לעלם הי כדין לית אפשר דתעדי שלטנא מדבית דוד עד עלמא:
elma ed dwd mdbyth shlTna dthedy apshr lyth kdyn hy lelm dmthmthqn apshr lyth dyma dmwy hykma mlkh qym wlbnwy lyh lelm yshral el washlTyh ldwd mlkwtha yhb dyshral alha yy arwm mde lkwn hla
Ought you not to know that Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

וקם ירבעם בר נבט עבדא דשלמה ברא דדוד ומרד על רבוניה:
rbwnyh el wmrd ddwd bra dshlmh ebda nbT br yrbem wqm
Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

ואתכנשו לותיה אנשי סריקין בני רשעא ואתאלמון על רחבעם בר שלמה ורחבעם הוה טלי ורכיך לבא ולא אתקף קדמיהון:
qdmyhwn athqp wla lba wrkyk Tly hwh wrkhbem shlmh br rkhbem el wathalmwn rshea bny sryqyn anshy lwthyh wathknshw
Worthless men were gathered to him, wicked fellows who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender hearted, and could not withstand them.

וכדון אתון אמרין לאתקפא קדם מלכותא דמן קדם יי אתיהיבת ביד בנוי דדוד ואתון רכפת עממין סגיעין ועמכון עגלין דדהבא די עבד לכון ירבעם בר נבט דחלן אלהא:
alha dkhln nbT br yrbem lkwn ebd dy ddhba eglyn wemkwn sgyeyn emmyn rkpth wathwn ddwd bnwy byd athyhybth yy qdm dmn mlkwtha qdm lathqpa amryn athwn wkdwn
“Now you intend to withstand the kingdom of Yahweh in the hand of the sons of David. You are a great multitude, and the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods are with you.

הלא תרכתון ית כהניא דיי בני אהרן וליואי ועבדתון לכון כומרין הי כעמי ארעתא כל דאתי לקרבא קרבניה בתור בר תורי ודכרין שבעא ויהי כהין בר מן מימרא דיי:
dyy mymra mn br khyn wyhy shbea wdkryn thwry br bthwr qrbnyh lqrba dathy kl aretha kemy hy kwmryn lkwn webdthwn wlyway ahrn bny dyy khnya yth thrkthwn hla
Haven’t you driven out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves according to the ways of the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of those who are no gods.

ואנחנא מימרא דיי בסעדנא והוא אלהנא ולא שבקנא דחלתיה וכהניא דמשמשין קדם יי בני אהרן וליואי בעיבידתא:
beybydtha wlyway ahrn bny yy qdm dmshmshyn wkhnya dkhlthyh shbqna wla alhna whwa bsedna dyy mymra wankhna
“But as for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests serving Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work.

ומסקין קטורת בוסמין קדם יי בצפר בצפר וברמש ברמש וקטורת בוסמיא וסדור לחמא על פתורא דכי ומנורתא דדהבא ובוצינהא לאדלקא ברמש ברמש ארום נטרין אנחנא ית מטרת מימרא דיי אלהנא ואתון שבקתון ית דחלתיה:
dkhlthyh yth shbqthwn wathwn alhna dyy mymra mTrth yth ankhna nTryn arwm brmsh brmsh ladlqa wbwtsynha ddhba wmnwrtha dky pthwra el lkhma wsdwr bwsmya wqTwrth brmsh wbrmsh btspr btspr yy qdm bwsmyn qTwrth wmsqyn
They burn to Yahweh every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table, and care for the gold lamp stand with its lamps, to burn every evening; for we keep the instruction of Yahweh our God, but you have forsaken him.

והא עמנא ברישא יי וכהנוהי וחצצרות יבבא ליבבא עליכון בני ישראל לא תניחון קדם יי אלהא דאבהתכון ארום לא תצלחון:
thtslkhwn la arwm dabhthkwn alha yy qdm thnykhwn la yshral bny elykwn lybba ybba wkhtstsrwth wkhnwhy yy brysha emna wha
Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers; for you will not prosper.”

וירבעם אסחר ית כמנא למיתי מן בתריהון והוו לאפי דבית יהודה וכמנא מן בתריהון:
bthryhwn mn wkmna yhwdh dbyth lapy whww bthryhwn mn lmythy kmna yth askhr wyrbem
But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

ואסתכיו דבית יהודה והא להון קרבא מן קדמיהון ומן בתריהון וקבילו קדם יי וכהניא מחצרין בחצצרתא:
bkhtstsrtha mkhtsryn wkhnya yy qdm wqbylw bthryhwn wmn qdmyhwn mn qrba lhwn wha yhwdh dbyth wasthkyw
When Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried to Yahweh, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

ויביבו אנש יהודה והוה כד יביבו אנש יהודה ומימרא דיי תבר ית ירבעם וכלהון ישראל קדם אביה ובית יהודה:
yhwdh wbyth abyh qdm yshral wklhwn yrbem yth thbr dyy wmymra yhwdh ansh ybybw kd whwh yhwdh ansh wybybw
Then the men of Judah gave a shout. As the men of Judah shouted, God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

ואפכו בני ישראל מן קדם דבית יהודה ומסרנון יי בידיהון:
bydyhwn yy wmsrnwn yhwdh dbyth qdm mn yshral bny wapkw
The children of Israel fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hand.
17
ומחו בהון אביה ועמיה מחתא רבתא ונפלו קטילין בחרבא מדבית ישראל חמש מאה אלפין גבר עולים:
ewlym gbr alpyn mah khmsh yshral mdbyth bkhrba qTylyn wnplw rbtha mkhtha wemyh abyh bhwn wmkhw
Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter, so five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel fell down slain.

ואתברו בני ישראל בעדנא ההיא ואתקפו בני יהודה ארום אסתמיכו על מימרא דיי אלהא דאבהתהון:
dabhthhwn alha dyy mymra el asthmykw arwm yhwdh bny wathqpw hhya bedna yshral bny wathbrw
Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

ורדף אביה בתר ירבעם וכבש מניה קרוין בית אל וית כפרנהא וית ישנה וית כפרנהא וית עפרון וכפרנהא:
wkprnha eprwn wyth kprnha wyth yshnh wyth kprnha wyth al byth qrwyn mnyh wkbsh yrbem bthr abyh wrdp
Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its villages, Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephron with its villages.

ולא הוה חילא בירבעם תוב ביומי אביהו ותבריה יי ומית:
wmyth yy wthbryh abyhw bywmy thwb byrbem khyla hwh wla
Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. Yahweh struck him, and he died.
21
ואתקף אביהו ונסיב ליה נשין ארביסרי ואוליד עשרין ותרין בנין ושתסרי בנן:
bnn wshthsry bnyn wthryn eshryn wawlyd arbysry nshyn lyh wnsyb abyhw wathqp
But Abijah grew mighty and took for himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

ושאר פתגמי אביה וארחתיה ופתגמוי כתיבין במדרשיה דנביא עדו:
edw dnbya bmdrshyh kthybyn wpthgmwy warkhthyh abyh pthgmy wshar
